Plant Origin: Haiti, India. Extraction Method: Steam distilled from root. Chemical Constituents: Ketones: Vitiverone; Terpenes: vitivene, cadinene; Terpene Alcohols: vetiverol. Action: Antiseptic, antispasmodic, calming, grounding, rubefacient (locally warming), sedative (nervous system), stimulant (circulatory, production of red corpuscles). Found In: Legacy, Fresh Essence Plus Mouthwash, Chamomile Moisturizing Soap, Melaleuca-Geranium Soap, Ortho Ease Massage Oil, Ortho Sport Massage Oil, and ParaFree. Traditional Uses: It is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties and traditionally used for arthritic symptoms. Other Uses: Vetiver may help acne, anxiety, arthritis, cuts, depression (including postpartum), insomnia, rheumatism, stress, skin care (oily, aging, tired, irritated). Application: Diffuse or apply topically, especially in a soothing massage. May be added to food or water as a dietary supplement. Fragrant Influence: Vetiver has a heavy, earthy fragrance similar to patchouly with a touch of lemon. It is psychologically grounding, calming, and stabilizing.
